The short answer

Fly direct from Edinburgh to Copenhagen (about 1h 50m–2h) with Ryanair, Norwegian, SAS or easyJet. At the airport, take the M2 metro to Kongens Nytorv (about 14 minutes) for Nyhavn, or the train to Copenhagen Central (about 15 minutes), which is right opposite Tivoli.

Market essentials

Tivoli Gardens is the headline act, with smaller markets around the old centre.

Dates

Christmas in Tivoli runs from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 and is closed on Christmas Eve. Nyhavn's market usually runs from November until just before Christmas. Check each market's site before you book, as dates and hours can change.

Opening hours

Tivoli usually opens around 11:00 and stays open late, until about 23:00, or midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Check Tivoli's opening hours page for your dates. Nyhavn's stalls usually open from about 10:00 until early evening.

Where

Tivoli is opposite Copenhagen Central Station. Nyhavn's stalls line the canal near Kongens Nytorv metro station, a 20–25 minute walk across the centre from Tivoli.

Højbro Plads in 2026

The German-style market on Højbro Plads has been a favourite in recent years, but one guide updated in September 2026 reports it won't return this year, with a shorter market planned in front of the City Hall on Rådhuspladsen from about 11 to 20 December. Check locally before planning around it.

Good to know

Tivoli charges for entry (rides cost extra), so buy tickets online in advance. Denmark uses the krone (DKK) and cards are accepted almost everywhere. It gets dark before 4pm in December, which is when Tivoli's lights look best.
