From Paphos Airport, bus 612 runs to Kato Paphos in 30–40 minutes for a couple of euros, or a taxi takes 20–25 minutes and costs around €37–€50. Winter sun essentials

Winter in Cyprus is mild and green rather than hot, and it's a good season for sightseeing and walking.

Weather

Paphos is usually around 16–17°C by day from December to March, and about 21°C in November. Nights drop to around 8–10°C. December to February are the wettest months, but you'll still get around 5–6 hours of sunshine a day. The sea is around 16–19°C.

Paphos or Larnaca?

Paphos Airport is best for Paphos, Coral Bay and the west of the island, and it's the one Birmingham flies to in winter. Larnaca is the island's main airport and suits Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Nicosia, but direct flights from Birmingham are limited in winter, so check easyJet for your dates.

Things to do

Winter is a comfortable time for the Paphos mosaics and Tombs of the Kings, coastal walks and day trips to Limassol or the Troodos Mountains, which can get snow in mid-winter.

Good to know

The Republic of Cyprus uses the euro, drives on the left and uses UK-style three-pin plugs. If you hire a car, check whether your insurance covers driving into the north of the island; often it doesn't.
